Working Lodging Plan

Preferred structure:

  • Saturday, 2026-07-04 to Sunday, 2026-07-05: east Tokyo base.
  • Monday, 2026-07-06 to Tuesday, 2026-07-07: Nikko base.
  • Wednesday, 2026-07-08 to Thursday, 2026-07-09: east Tokyo base.
  • Friday, 2026-07-10: Narita-area base.

This structure keeps the main moves logical:

  • Narita arrival -> east Tokyo.
  • East Tokyo -> Nikko by Tobu from Asakusa.
  • Nikko -> east Tokyo.
  • East Tokyo -> Narita area the night before departure.

Airbnb Search Targets

July 4-6: East Tokyo Arrival Base

Search areas:

  • Asakusa
  • Kuramae
  • Tawaramachi
  • Ueno
  • Yanaka
  • Nippori
  • Oshiage / Sumida

Best fit:

  • Asakusa / Kuramae / Tawaramachi if Nikko is the main scenic anchor, because Tobu Asakusa is the clean Nikko departure point.
  • Ueno / Nippori if Narita arrival logistics and broader rail access matter more.

What to optimize for:

  • Easy evening arrival after Narita.
  • Easy access to Tobu Asakusa or Ueno/Nippori.
  • Walkable food and convenience stores.
  • Simple morning departure for Nikko.

July 6-8: Nikko Base

Search areas:

  • Tobu-Nikko / JR Nikko station area.
  • Shinkyo / World Heritage area.
  • Chuzenji Onsen / Lake Chuzenji if a scenic or onsen stay is reasonably priced.
  • Yumoto Onsen only if intentionally choosing a more remote nature/onsen version.
  • Kinugawa Onsen only if lodging value is strong enough to justify being less ideal for classic Nikko + lake routing.

Best fit:

  • Tobu-Nikko / JR Nikko station area for budget, food access, bus access, and flexible plans.
  • Shinkyo / World Heritage area for atmosphere and walking access to shrines and Kanmangafuchi.
  • Chuzenji Onsen for the best lake/falls/onsen mood, with more bus dependence.

What to optimize for:

  • Easy bus access to World Heritage sights, Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Falls, and Senjogahara.
  • Reasonable check-in window after arriving from Tokyo.
  • Food options or dinner included if staying farther from Nikko town.
  • Onsen/ryokan value if the price is worth the splurge.

July 8-10: East Tokyo Return Base

Search areas:

  • Asakusa / Kuramae / Tawaramachi.
  • Ueno / Yanaka / Nippori.
  • Oshiage / Sumida.
  • Asakusabashi / Akihabara / Ryogoku if city energy and arcades matter more for the return stretch.

Best fit:

  • Asakusa/Kuramae for atmosphere and continuity.
  • Ueno/Nippori for Narita-side positioning.
  • Akihabara/Asakusabashi/Ryogoku if the goal is a stronger city/arcade/night wandering finish.

What to optimize for:

  • Easy return from Nikko.
  • Easy July 10 move toward Narita.
  • Enough city access for arcades, anime/gaming, food, nightlife atmosphere, and wandering.

July 10-11: Narita Area Final Night

Search areas:

  • Keisei Narita Station.
  • JR Narita Station.
  • Naritasan Omotesando.
  • Naritasan Shinsho-ji / Naritasan Park side if transit to airport is still simple.

Best fit:

  • A comfortable Airbnb or simple stay near Keisei Narita / JR Narita, with enough food and convenience access.

What to optimize for:

  • No Tokyo -> Narita transfer on Saturday morning.
  • Easy airport transfer for both departures.
  • Food/convenience options on Friday night.
  • A calmer final evening around Naritasan Omotesando and Naritasan Shinsho-ji if energy allows.

Gotchas

  • Do not overpay for west-side Tokyo if the route is built around Narita, Asakusa, and Nikko.
  • Avoid a cramped semi-double if there is a better queen, double, or twin option at similar price.
  • For Nikko, a cheap stay far from transit can cost more in friction than it saves.
  • For Narita, airport hotels may be practical, but a station/Naritasan-area stay gives a better final evening.
