2026-06-27 Scenic Fukuoka Day

Now

  • Status: Reference / completed day shape; Dazaifu-centered plan is the default.
  • Archetype: Exploration Day.
  • Next move: breakfast near Dazaifu Tenmangu, then stay Dazaifu-centered while weather allows.
  • Critical taps: Dazaifu Tenmangu / Kyushu National Museum / Dazaifu Airbnb.
  • Carry / check: weather, rain layer, water, payment cards, IC-card plan, and dinner/grocery needs before shops close.
  • Cut first: Fukuoka city add-ons; keep the day local if the group is settling in.

Today At A Glance

  • Theme: Dazaifu scenic getaway, with Fukuoka city only as a minor optional add-on.
  • Start: Dazaifu Ratan Airbnb.
  • End: Dazaifu Ratan Airbnb.
  • Route: Airbnb -> breakfast -> Dazaifu Tenmangu / shrine approach -> Kyushu National Museum or Kamado Shrine -> Airbnb.
  • Must-do: Dazaifu Tenmangu and shrine-town wandering.
  • Hard constraints: first full Japan day after late arrival; June 28 has a 10:15 AM Hakata -> Kyoto Shinkansen.
  • Success state: relaxed Dazaifu-centered day, one strong scenic/shrine anchor, food, rest, and bags partly ready for Kyoto.
  • Fallback: Dazaifu Tenmangu plus shrine approach only; museum/cafe/Airbnb rest replaces the bigger nature push.

Timeline

  • 8:00-8:45 AM: slow wake-up, weather check, and decide early vs gentle start.
  • 8:15-9:00 AM optional early start: Starbucks Dazaifu Tenmangu Omotesando for coffee and the Kengo Kuma wooden-lattice store.
  • 9:00-9:45 AM default breakfast: Ueshima Coffee House Dazaifu.
  • 9:45-11:30 AM: Dazaifu Tenmangu, shrine approach, ponds, bridges, camphor trees, and snack browsing.
    • Cue: red shrine architecture, bridges, ponds, camphor trees, and shrine-town snack streets.
    • Thumbnail: Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine
  • 11:30 AM-12:15 PM: Fukutaro Dazaifu or umegaemochi snack window if lunch is not urgent.
  • 12:15-1:15 PM default lunch: Taishokan. Alternates: Curry & Cafe Sawa, Soba Yasutake, Ichiran, or Sengyo Inokichi if seafood is the mood.
  • 1:15-2:45 PM: Kyushu National Museum for indoor/cooling time, or Kazamidori / slower shrine-town wandering.
    • Cue: large curved glass museum building tucked into the hill behind the shrine area.
    • Thumbnail: Kyushu National Museum
  • 2:45-4:15 PM: Kamado Shrine by bus/taxi if ground conditions and energy are good.
    • Cue: forested hillside shrine, quieter and more nature-forward than the central Tenmangu approach.
    • Thumbnail: Kamado Shrine Dazaifu
  • 4:15-5:15 PM: Cheesecake Laboratory and/or Airbnb rest.
  • 5:15-6:00 PM: JA Yumebatake before it closes if local produce/snacks are useful; otherwise Laganet / convenience store later.
  • 6:00-8:00 PM: quiet Dazaifu dinner. Default proper-dinner bet is Curry & Cafe Sawa if open; Ichiran or groceries/konbini are the low-friction fallback.
  • Before sleep: pack for Dazaifu -> Hakata -> Kyoto and stage Smart EX QR screenshots.

Choices And Fallbacks

  • Default: Dazaifu Tenmangu, shrine approach, Taishokan lunch, museum/cafe or Kamado Shrine, Cheesecake Laboratory, quiet dinner.
  • Switch to indoor/cooling route if: heat, humidity, rain, or low energy makes Kamado Shrine feel punitive.
  • Switch to Kamado-first if: Dazaifu Tenmangu crowd pressure is already high or the family wants the forested shrine earlier.
  • Cut first: lower Mt. Homan, Fukuoka city add-on, seafood-specific dining.
  • Optional city add-on: Tenjin, Hakata, or Nakasu only if Dazaifu feels complete and the group wants city energy.

Live Checks

  • Host-recommended restaurant/cafe hours, especially Sawa, Taishokan, Soba Yasutake, Kazamidori, and Cheesecake Laboratory.
  • Dazaifu Tenmangu, Kyushu National Museum, and Kamado Shrine current hours or closure notices.
  • Weather, heat index, and rain before deciding on Kamado Shrine / Mt. Homan.
  • Dazaifu -> Hakata route and departure target for June 28.
  • Evening food options near Dazaifu if skipping the Fukuoka city add-on.

Food / Water / Rest

  • Food pressure: low-medium; snacks and host recommendations are part of the day.
  • Breakfast default: Ueshima Coffee House. Earlier architecture/coffee option: Starbucks.
  • Lunch default: Taishokan. Dinner default: Curry & Cafe Sawa if open.
  • Rest valves: Kyushu National Museum, Kazamidori cafe, Airbnb rest, convenience-store/grocery dinner.

Transit / Tickets / Bags

  • Bags: leave luggage at Dazaifu Airbnb during the day.
  • Tomorrow prep: stage Shinkansen QR screenshots, passports, chargers, and next-day clothes before sleeping.
  • Local movement: walk the shrine-town core; use bus/taxi for Kamado Shrine if heat or timing makes walking inefficient.

Gotchas

  • Dazaifu Tenmangu’s main hall restoration has recently finished, but normal main-hall worship may not resume until September 2026; verify the June 2026 worship setup before treating the main hall as a visual anchor.
  • Komyozenji is not a reliable anchor right now because current travel references list it as not regularly open to the public.
  • Choose the lower-slope Kamado Shrine/Mt. Homan experience over the full summit if humidity, rain, or group energy argues for a lighter day.
  • Do not overbuild the first full day; this trip values recovery and atmosphere.
  • If doing a city add-on, confirm the return train/taxi plan to Dazaifu before leaving.

Purpose

Plan the Dazaifu-centered Fukuoka-area day.

Reference

  • Weather snapshot is filed in weather.

  • Host recommendations are reflected as defaults and alternates here; the full raw host list should not become a second day plan.

  • Not default: Hakata-yu onsen in Futsukaichi. It adds a side trip and is not needed unless the whole group wants a bath-focused detour.
