2026-06-28 Fukuoka To Kyoto
Purpose
Plan the Fukuoka to Kyoto transition day and Kyoto arrival evening.
When to Use
Use this page for Sunday checkout, Hakata Station logistics, Shinkansen planning, and first Kyoto evening choices.
Theme
Transition day and atmospheric Kyoto intro.
Morning
Primary Dazaifu-base plan:
- Simple breakfast near the Airbnb, Dazaifu Station, or from convenience-store supplies bought the night before.
- Finish packing before leaving for breakfast if checkout timing is tight.
- Checkout from the Dazaifu Airbnb.
- Transfer to Hakata Station with a conservative buffer.
- Buy bento, drinks, and snacks at Hakata Station.
- Board Hakata -> Kyoto Shinkansen.
Suggested rhythm:
- 7:00-8:00 AM: breakfast and final packing.
- 8:00-8:45 AM: checkout and transfer toward Hakata.
- 9:00-10:00 AM: Hakata Station buffer, bento, drinks, bathrooms, and platform.
- 10:15 AM: board NOZOMI 20 from Hakata to Kyoto.
- 12:59 PM: arrive at Kyoto Station.
Hard lodging constraint:
- The reviewed Airbnb listing says checkout is before 10:00 AM, so the morning should be treated as a transfer morning, not a sightseeing morning.
If the family wants one last Dazaifu moment:
- Keep it very small: a short shrine-approach snack walk or coffee only.
- Do not add Kamado Shrine, museum time, or a serious sightseeing stop.
- Protect the Kyoto arrival day from becoming a rushed travel day.

Dazaifu Transfer Options
Preferred:
- Train from Dazaifu via Nishitetsu Futsukaichi toward the Fukuoka rail network, then onward to Hakata.
- Works best if luggage is manageable and everyone is comfortable with a transfer.
Simpler fallback:
- Taxi from the Airbnb to the most convenient station or directly to Hakata if budget and timing justify it.
- Use this if rain, heat, luggage, or checkout stress makes public transit feel like false economy.
Bus fallback:
- Direct bus routes between Dazaifu and Hakata/Fukuoka Airport may be useful if schedules line up.
- Verify the exact Sunday schedule before depending on it.
Kyoto Hotel Area
Locked stay:
- CHOAN-RIN.
- Address: 52-3 Mibutakahicho, Kyoto, Kyoto 604-8824, Japan.
- Check-in: 4:00 PM.
- Checkout on 2026-07-01 at 11:00 AM.
- Use this as the Kansai base; do not split hotels with Osaka.
Kyoto Arrival Flow
Preferred sequence:
- Arrive at Kyoto Station in the afternoon.
- Prioritize getting luggage to CHOAN-RIN over squeezing in a pre-check-in attraction.
- If arriving before 4:00 PM, use station lockers/luggage storage or ask the host whether luggage drop is possible.
- Check in at CHOAN-RIN, reset, and use the open-air bath/home space as recovery.
Evening shape:
- Keep this as a first-Kyoto atmosphere evening, not a sightseeing push.
- Choose one easy corridor: Kamo River/Pontocho/Gion if energy is good, or a closer neighborhood dinner if the group is tired.
- Let the house itself count as part of the experience; this is the first night in the locked Kyoto base.
Arrival Fallbacks
If the Fukuoka -> Kyoto transfer runs late:
- Go straight to CHOAN-RIN.
- Do dinner close to the lodging.
- Save Kamo River/Gion/Higashiyama for another evening or a future Kyoto trip.
If the group is energized:
- Do a short Kamo River or Pontocho/Gion walk after check-in.
- Keep it under control so Arashiyama can start early on June 29.
If weather is bad:
- Treat Kyoto Station food, nearby dinner, and the open-air bath as the plan.
- Avoid a wet first-night walk with luggage fatigue.

Evening
Focus:
- Atmosphere.
- Traditional streets.
- River walk.
- Dinner.
Suggested areas:
- Kamo River.
- Gion.
- Higashiyama.
Gotchas
- Keep the evening light because this is a travel day.
- Verify luggage storage, CHOAN-RIN check-in timing, and live platform information.
- If departing from Dazaifu, do not plan a full sightseeing morning before the Shinkansen.
- Build in extra buffer because Dazaifu adds a suburban transfer before Hakata Station.
- Confirm whether luggage forwarding is worth it from the Dazaifu base.
- Because the listing describes steep/narrow access, decide the night before whether to use taxi support for the luggage segment.
- Do not let first-night Kyoto ambition compromise the early Arashiyama plan.
